Session Flow Overview

To ensure a smooth session and set you up for success, here’s what to expect during your recording:

  1. Kick-Off:

    • Once we start rolling audio and cameras, you’ll begin by introducing yourself:

      • Say your name/band name and: "You are tuned in to The Houston Collective."

    • After your introduction, jump right into your first track

  2. Host Intros & First Interview Segment:

    • After your first track, our hosts will introduce themselves.

    • The first round of questions will typically focus on your origin story—how you started or formed your band.

  3. Second Track & Creative Process Discussion:

    • Perform your second track.

    • Next, we’ll discuss your creative process, including how you write your music, lyrics, or poems, and how everything comes together as a group or as a solo artist.

  4. Third Track & Houston Music Scene Conversation:

    • Perform your third song.

    • Then, we’ll talk about your experience in the Houston music scene.

  5. Closing Segment & YouTube Exclusive:

    • We’ll wrap up the main session and then record an intro for the YouTube-exclusive segment.

    • During this, you’ll have a chance to plug where people can find your music, any upcoming shows, and any other time-sensitive information.

    • Finally, you’ll perform your fourth and final track.

    • If there’s time, we may have some additional informal discussion to wrap things up.

Ground Rules

  • Profanity in Songs:

    • Absolutely no profanity on The KPFT Sessions

    • Songs with profanity can still air on The Houston Collective Radio and our 24/7 video stream.

  • If your songs are profanity-free, they may also be eligible to air on KPFT 90.1 FM.

  • Time-Sensitive Information:

    • Keep in mind that air dates are typically at least a month out.

    • If you have any time-sensitive updates, share them during the YouTube-exclusive segment so they’ll reach your audience in a timely way.
